Fragmentation behavior of clusters carrying charge pairs. — •Francesco Eusepi, Christoph Gebhardt, Anna Tomsic, Vladimir Gridin, Hartmut Schröder und Karl-Ludwig Kompa — Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik. Hans-Kopfermann-Str.1; 85748 Garching.

Present theories on cluster scattering concentrate on two limiting cases: complete shattering into monomers or survival of the cluster with allowance of a certain degree of evaporation. However, we observe that a single cluster carrying a charge pair decays upon surface impact into two oppositely charged fragments of intermediate size (some tens). Here we investigate this effect as a function of impact velocity, cluster size, surface adsorbates and surface temperature.
