Results of high-resolution ion imaging experiments on the photodissociation dynamics of BrCl at numerous excitation wavelengths in the range 320 − 560 nm will be presented.
Image analysis provides the electronic branching into the two active product channels Br(2P3/2) + Cl(2P3/2) and Br(2P3/2) + Cl(2P1/2) as well as the recoil anisotropy of each set of products as a function of initial BrCl ground state vibrational excitation and dissociation energy. These results then allow the deconvolution of the (separately measured) parent absorption spectrum into contributions associated with a parallel excitation (Δ Ω = 0) to the B 3Π(0+) state and a perpendicular excitation (Δ Ω = ± 1) to the A 3Π(1) and C 1Π(1) state.
