Ion-impact multiple ionization and fragmentation of molecules — •N.M. Kabachnik1,2, B. Siegmann1, U. Werner1, and H.O. Lutz11Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld, 33615 Bielefeld — 2Institute of Nuclear Physics, Moscow State University, 119899 Moscow, Russia

Recent experimental and theoretical studies of ion-molecule collisions in the energy range from 100 keV to 700 MeV will be presented. The following problems will be discussed: (a) the total cross section of multiple ionization of simple molecules and the charge distribution of fragments; description of the cross section within the statistical energy deposition model; (b) the angular distribution of molecular fragments and in particular the molecular orientation effects in multiple ionization; (c) the kinetic energy release distributions and the break-down of the Coulomb explosion model. In addition, peculiarities of the fast ion collisions with complex molecular systems such as fullerenes will be discussed. In such systems a considerable part of the transferred energy is stored in the inner degrees of freedom, that leads to the emission of fragments and delayed electrons on a larger time scale. Experimental data and model calculations for ion - C60 collisions will be presented.
