Ceramic laser materials are now taken into application to replace common single crystaline laser hosts. Since the manufacturing of ceramics has been developed to high quality state, thoses materials will now be testet for all kinds of YAG laser systems.
The first available high quality laser ceramic use to be Nd3+:YAG. In our labs we examined different laser transitions mainly on 1064nm and 1320nm in comparison to single crystal materials. Experimental results and basis properties of Nd3+:YAG ceramic lasers will be presented. Although many dopants are possible, Neodymium doped ceramics will have the most importance in replacing single-crystal lasers in the near future.
