Green upconversion lasing of Er3+:LiLuF4 using extra cavity pump feedback — •Sebastian Bär, Ernst Heumann, Hanno Scheife, and Günter Huber — Universität Hamburg, Institut für Laser-Physik, Jungiusstr. 9a, D-20355 Hamburg
In this paper on upconversion lasing of Er3+:LiLuF4 will be reported. The first Er3+:LiLuF4 room-temperature continuous wave up-conversion laser emitting in the green spectral region has successfully been demonstrated in our laboratory. Here, we report on a significant improvement of the laser performance.
Powerful green upconversion lasing of Er3+:LiLuF4 at room temperature could be achieved by use of a resonator external mirror for back reflection of the nonabsorbed pump power into the laser crystal. As pump source an all solid state Ti:sapphire laser was used with a maximum output power of 2.8 W at 974 nm. The slope effeciency is 9% with respect to the incident pump power and as high as 50% with respect to the absorbed pump power. The maximum output of 152 mW represents to our best knowledge the highest value of a room temperature continuous wave crystalline green Er-upconversion laser so far.
The new laser setup as well as the spectroscopic investigations (ground state absorption, excited state absorption, fluorescence, lifetime) will be presented in the talk.
