Photorefractive properties of cadmium telluride and cadmium manganese telluride crystals doped with transition elements have been investigated in the near IR. The diffraction efficiency (DE) of dynamic holograms recorded in four- wave mixing scheme, as a function of the crystal orientation, reference wave energy and grating period, has been measured. Maximum DE was revealed for the convergence angle of light beams 8 grad associated with the grating period of 7 mkm. As was shown, even in the absence of the external electrical field the DE in all doped samples could reach 2,5 %, and the hologram lifetime was attained 200 ns. The influence of the electron-hole competition on spectral dependence of photorefractive properties has been discussed.
