Optimization of Schmidt number witnesses — •Florian Hulpke, Anna Sanpera, Dagmar Bruß, and Maciej Lewenstein — Institut für Theoretische Physik, Universität Hannover, 30167 Hannover, Germany
The Schmidt number of a mixed state characterizes the minimum Schmidt rank of the pure states needed to construct it. Analogous to entanglement witnesses a Schmidt number witness allows the detection of states with a given Schmidt number. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for such operators to be optimal, and a connection between Schmidt number witnesses and entanglement witnesses in a higher dimensional state space.
