Large Scale Crowd Simulation with 2D Cellular Automata — •Hubert Klüpfel, Andreas Keßel, and Michael Schreckenberg — Physik von Transport und Verkehr, Gerhard-Mercator-Universität, 47048 Duisburg
The simulation of crowd movement is a fascinating field of research that receives growing attention. Fundamental properties of pedestrian flow as well as the investigation of model characteristics provide many intriguing insights. In this paper we focus on the simulation of large crowds (up to 100000 peds) with respect to their dynamics. The model is based on a 2D CA which can – with restrictions – be seen as a generalization of the CA models widely used for the simulation of large scale road networks, especially the NaSch model. As a potential application we present the simulation of the egress of visitors from a football stadium.
