Preparation, characterisation and sensor properties of piezo- and pyroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) copolymer films — •Kristin Richter, Michael Wegener, Wolfgang Künstler, Martin Seiß und Reimund Gerhard-Multhaupt — University of Potsdam, Department of Physics, ACMP, Am Neuen Palais 10, D-14469 Potsdam, Germany
Films of poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoropropylene) copolymer (P(VDF-HFP)) were cast from solution. Undrawn and uniaxially drawn copolymer films were investigated with respect to their structure and their piezo-, pyro- and ferroelectric properties. From the infrared transmission spectra we conclude, that undrawn and uniaxially drawn copolymer films show the same typical chain conformations as non-stretched and stretched homopolymer PVDF films, respectively. A remanent polarisation slightly lower than in PVDF homopolymer films was found after electrical poling. However, because of the softer structure of the P(VDF-HFP) copolymer films, the polarisation in uniaxially drawn films yields higher piezoelectric and pyroelectric coefficients, 30 pC/N and 49 µC/(m2K), respectively, than those of pure PVDF films cast from solution.
