Short Time Dynamics of a Realistic Model of a Polybutadiene Melt — •Stephan Krushev and Wolfgang Paul — Institut für Physik, Universität Mainz
We study through molecular dynamics the short time behavior of a melt of polybutadiene (PBD) for different temperatures above Tg. Through a comparison of the chemically realistic (CRC) model and a structurally equivalent freely rotating chain (FRC) model we study the effect of rotational barriers on the dynamics of this polymer. The dynamical correlation functions show a plateau similar to the cage effect in glassy dynamics, but they violate the factorization theorem of mode coupling theory. Thus four particle interactions, that constitute the torsional stiffness, cause an effect similar to glassy dynamics, that differs significantly from known patterns for simple liquids and simple polymers.
