Single dopant molecules in polycrystalline or polymeric matrices often exhibit a linear Stark effect due to matrix-induced dipole moments. We found that the Stark shift of terrylene in hexadecane and polyisobutylene at low temperatures is not uniquely determined by the electrical field strength, but that most molecular lines show a slow creeping behavior after a sudden change of the field strength. Creeping in both directions with respect to the static Stark shift was observed. Possible explanations of this effect are discussed. In addition also line shift data due to magnetic fields and hydrostatic pressure are presented.
