Experiments with breathers in small Josephson system — •Francesca Pignatelli — Physikalisches Institut III, Universitaet Erlangen-Nuernberg, Erwin-Rommel-str.1, 91058 Erlangen, Deutschland
We present experimental observation of states with broken symmetry (discrete rotobreathers) in small systems, consisting of a cell with three small Josephson junctions. The study of breather states in simple structures as single cells should provide an insight into breather states in larger systems such as ladders and two dimensional junction arrays. We observed breather states in cells with various parameters of anisotropy, self inductance and damping. We calculate the existence region of the breather state by a simplified dc model. Resonant interaction between breather and linear electromagnetic oscillations in the cell, showing themselves as voltage steps in the current-voltage characteristics, are considered too.
