The thermal conductivity of superlattices is investigated in a temperature regime where the phonon mean free path is larger than the layer spacings. The Peierls collision operator in the phonon Boltzmann equation is evaluated for isotope scattering and compositional disorder at the interfaces. The acoustic phonon modes of the superlattice are determined within the continuum approximation, and the thermal conductivity is calculated in the Ziman limit. The influence of phonon scattering from the boundaries of the sample and of mini-Umklapp processes is taken into account. Numerical results for the thermal conductivity of GaAs/AlAs superlattices (relatively small acoustic mismatch) are compared with corresponding data obtained for Al/W systems (large acoustic mismatch).
