Bindin energy of shallow donor impurities in polar cylindrical quantum well wire — •M. Bouhassoune — Max-Planck Institut für Mikrostrukturphysik, Weinberg 2, 06120 Halle, Germany
The binding energy of a hydrogenic impurity in cylindrical quantum well wire is investigated. Calculations is performed within the effective mass approximation and using a variational approach. The electronic confinement was modeled by a finite and infinite deep potential well. The interaction of the charge carriers (electron and ion) with both the confined longitudinal optical (LO) and surface optical (SO) phonons of the polar material has been considered. The results show that the binding energy and the electron effective mass depend strongly on the size of the wire, the height of the potential barrier and the polaronic corrections. Furthermore, for thin wires the binding energy depends also on the variation of the electron effective mass at the edge of the wire.
