The present work deals with optical investigations of thin films from the Ag-Se-Te system. The bulk glasses have been synthesised from the initial elements with Ag content 0-25 at.%. Thin films from the bulk glasses have been prepared by vacuum evaporation. Film’s composition has been checked by Auger electron spectroscopy and the identity of the film’s and bulk’s composition has been confirmed.
Transmission electron microscope analysis and electron diffraction have been used for morphology investigation. As a result, the films are amorphous. Spectra of the optical constants (n and k) were determined from the ellipsometric investigations.
Tauc’s procedure has been used for band gap calculation of the films.
The compositional relation of the band gap will be discussed as a result of the structural alternations due to the silver concentration in the glass matrix.
