In the recently discovered series Ni5Te4X2O12, X=Cl, Br, I, a two-dimensional Ni-O-network is
sandwiched by Te-halide-coordinations forming a layered structure
[1]. The complex coordination of Ni gives rise to competing
antiferromagnetic superexchange interactions. As the ionic radii
of the halides strongly vary within the series a tuning of the
interlayer coupling may be expected. A well pronounced divergence
of the zero-field and field-cooled magnetic susceptibility has
been found and taken as evidence for a spin glass transition. The
transition temperatures range from 6 to 30 K within the series.
