spin density waves in Cr/V superlattices — •Michael Hübener, Katharina Theis-Bröhl, and Hartmut Zabel — Lehrstuhl für Experimentalphysik/Festkörperphysik IV, Ruhr-Universität Bochum
It is well known that in thin Cr films a spin density wave (SDW) magnetism develops below the Neel temperature, which depends via dimensional scaling on the Cr layer thickness (TN = 311K in bulk material). Furthermore, the polarization and the propagation of the SDW can be controlled by the elastic and magnetic boundary conditions. We have prepared by MBE and ion-beam sputtering methods several [001] oriented V/Cr superlattices. Utilizing x-ray diffraction and RHEED methods the structural and interface quality has been determined. In order to analyze the SDW magnetism we have performed neutron scattering experiments, scanning around the (001) and (010) peak of Cr. The main question to be answered is wether the Cr SDW propagates through the V spacer layer and wether nodes or antinodes occur at the V/Cr interface. First neutron results and their analysis will be discussed. Work supported by DFG SFB 491 No-dqMagnetic HeterostructuresNo-dq.
