Modern high-resolution photoelectron spectrometers allow to measure spectral structures on the energy scale of a few meV with high accuracy. We present photoemission spectroscopy studies on the 4f spectral function of strongly correlated cerium systems. Based on a careful analysis considering the thermal broadening of the Fermi distribution we get access to the line shape and temperature dependence of the Kondo resonance including a direct observation of the crystal field satellites. In addition we compare the photoemission results with new Non Crossing Approximation (NCA) calculations based on the Single Impurity Anderson Model (SIAM), which we performed including spin-orbit and crystal field splittings of the Ce 4f states. The experiments are in surprising agreement with the theoretically calculated spectra.
