Components for Integrated Polymer Circuits — •Dietmar Zipperer, Andreas Ullmann, Jüergen Ficker, Alexander Knobloch, Walter Fix, and Wolfgang Clemens — Siemens AG, CT MM1, Erlangen, Germany
Using soluble polymers as active and as insulating layers we report on the fabrication of fast components and integrated circuits. We present organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) with a poly(3-alkylthiophene) (P3AT) semiconductor layer, an organic insulator layer, source-drain and gate-layers of gold that we integrated into circuits such as inverters and ring-oscillators [1]. We prepared organic diodes to rectify at high frequencies from a P3AT semiconductor layer in between two metal electrodes, one of gold and one of titanium. Built into a rectifier-circuit with a capacitor and a load resistor we achieved 3dB-frequencies of 1MHz. The main advantage of these polymer components is their printability [2], which allows very cost-effective fabrication. Therefore Integrated Plastic Circuits will make possible new electronic applications such as electronic barcodes and ident-tags.
