Longitudinal relaxation rate of protons in the radical cation salt — •A. Kaiser, B. Pongs, S. Matejcek, and E. Dormann — Physikalisches Institut, Universität Karlsruhe (TH), D-76128 Karlsruhe
Py-SbF6 belongs to the family of radical cation salts. This organic conductor shows a strong anisotropy of the conductivity, giving him the properties of a one-dimensional conductor. This radical cation salt undergoes a metal-insulator transition at about 116K. Both phenomena influence the longitudinal relaxation rate of the protons. This relaxation rate was measured directly with nuclear magnetic resonance and indirectly with electron spin resonance. On the one hand temperature dependent measurements at different Larmor frequencies will be presented and on the other hand frequency dependent measurements of the longitudinal relaxation rate will be shown including the relaxation rate in the rotating frame (T1ρ). Each of the temperature and the frequency dependent curves can be described by the combination of the contributions to the rate caused by nuclear motion and one-dimensional motion of conduction electrons.
