ORGANIC SOLAR CELLS WITH DOPED WIDE-GAP MATERIALS — •Bert Maennig, Martin Pfeiffer, Jens Drechsel, Ansgar Werner, and Karl Leo — Institut für Angewandte Photophysik, George-Bähr-Str. 1, 01069 Dresden
Organic solar cells are a promising way towards large area and low price photovoltaic systems. Although the doping process is crucial for inorganic solar cells, organic solar cells are normally still prepared without controlled doping. We started with a common structure containing a mixed layer of zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc) and buckminsterfullerene C60 as photoactive part between a zinc-phthalocyanine layer on one side and a dimethyl-perylene-tetracarboxylic-diimide (MPP) layer on the other side. Here, we dope zinc-phthalocyanine (p-type doping by tetrafluoro-tetracyano-quinodimethane) and MPP (n-type doping) by coevaporation reaching a conductivity of up to 10-3S/cm and 10-4S/cm, respectively. The device shows a power conversion efficiency of 0.87 voltage of 0.44V at 100 mW/cm2 (halogen lamp). As a next step, we replace the ZnPc and MPP layers by doped wide-gap materials like m-MTDATA to improve the internal quantum efficiency.
