Organic field-effect transistors : More than simple devices — •J. Hendrik Schön — Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, 600 Mountain Av., Murray Hill, New Jersey 07974, U.S.A.
Organic field effect transistors are very attractive for low-cost, large-area, flexible electronic applications. In addition, they offer a very powerful tool to study properties of organic materials as a function of doping. It is possible to tune the carrier concentration continuesly over many orders of magnitude up to several electrons/holes per molecule without inducing disorder or structural changes. A variety of phenomena such as the Quantum Hall effect or superconductivity have been observed.
