Flow of an Ordered Fluid: Insights via Dewetting of a Block-Copolymer Melt — •Daniel Podzimek1, Karin Jacobs1, and Robert Magerle2 — 1Abteilung Angewandte Physik, Uni Ulm, Albert-Einstein-Allee 11, 89069 Ulm — 2Abteilung Physikalische Chemie II, Uni Bayreuth, 95440 Bayreuth
A melt of block-copolymers with incompatible blocks reacts upon shear by an alignment of the microdomains. In our experiments, no external tool is required to transduce shear, rather the liquid is moved by internal (de)wetting forces. First scanning force microscopy experiments show that the shear forces can be determined and can be matched with domain arrangements. By nanotomography (R. Magerle, PRL 85 (2000) 2749), we additionally gain three dimensional insight into the domain structure.
