We synthesized a series of monodisperse
polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinyl-pyridine)-b-poly(tert-butylmetha
crylate) triblock copolymers (SVT) with increasing molecular weight of the
PtBMA block. Bulk morphologies were characterized by small angle X-ray
scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Thin films (thickness 20 - 130 nm) were prepared by either dip- or
spin-coating from solution on silicon wafers. After exposure to CHCl3
or THF vapor, the surface structure of the films was investigated with
scanning force microscopy (SFM) and field emission scanning electron
microscopy (FESEM).
Depending on the composition of the block copolymer, the exposure
time to solvent vapor, the rate of solvent evaporation and the
film thickness we find different surface structures indicative of
thin film morphologies (e.g. perforated lamellae and gyroids),
which significantly differ from the respective bulk morphologies.
