We report layer-Korringa-Kohn-Rostocker calculations within the local density approximation for bulk and surface states (SFS) as well as the corresponding angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) intensities of MgB2. Since our theoretical results reproduce very well recent ARPES data [1], we conclude that the electronic structure of MgB2 is a conventional one. At least two SFS are assigned. The electron-phonon interaction for these states is estimated and compared with that in the bulk. Consequences of SFS on the superconducting properties of small grains in micro-powder samples are discussed.
