On a simple generalised view of molecule generation in plasma — •Daniel Schram, Peter Vankan, Jean-Pierre van Helden, and Richard Engeln — Department of Applied Physics, Center for Plasma Physics and Radiation Technology, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Postbus 513, 5600 MB Eindhoven, The Netherlands
In several experiments the formation of new and/or ro-vibrationally excited molecules are reported. Processes involved are dissociation in the plasma and association in the volume (at high densities) or at the surface (at low densities). In a generalised view the dissociation of primary molecules is connected to the ionisation, which should obey the existence law, connecting production to powerdissipation. At low pressure molecule formation is by association at the surface with weakly binding atoms. From such an analysis estimates can be given of the molecule formation at surfaces.
