Asymptotic Description of Penetration of the TEXTOR Dynamic Ergodic Divertor Field — •Sandy Schillebeeckx and David Faulconer — Laboratory for Plasmaphysics, ERM/KMS, Renaissancelaan 30, 1000 Brussels, Belgium
The Dynamic Ergodic Divertor (DED) being implemented on the TEXTOR tokamak seeks to favourably influence plasma properties by imposing at the HFS plasma edge a magnetic perturbation (0-10kHz) which rotates largely in the poloidal direction [1]. To study the penetration of the waves excited by this perturbation, we linearize a two-fluid warm plasma description in slab geometry, obtaining an eighth-order ordinary differential system of the form:

Due to extremely short wavelength modes (and rapid exponentiation) being
present in the DED case, brute force numerical integration confronts great
difficulty. With a view to greatly restricting the regions where such
integration is necessary, we examine here the possibility of simplifying
the numerical task by means of a preliminary asymptotic development in
є . Determining the relevance of taking є ≪ 1 over
various x-intervals is a principal object.
