Plasma diagnostics on different discharge modes of a free-burning arc — •Gerrit Kühn, Jens Reiche, Andreas Knoche, Fred Könemann, and Manfred Kock — Institut für Atom- und Molekülphysik, Abteilung Plasmaphysik

We present near-cathode investigations on a low-current free-burning argon arc. Using different diagnostic techniques like Thomson-scattering, emission spectroscopy, laser-induced fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy we could analyse a special mode of operation which we named No-dqblue coreNo-dq. In front of the cathode this plasma regime is weakly non-ideal and shows high temperatures compared to the bulk plasma. We are going to extend our diagnostics by interferometric techniques.
