Strong correlations in dense quantum Coulomb systems (QCS) are attracting increasing interest in many fields [1]. Examples are bound states in dense plasmas (atoms, molecules, clusters) and semiconductors (excitons, trions, biexcitons) or Coulomb crystals. We present first principle path integral Monte Carlo simulations of these effects for dense hydrogen and electron-hole plasmas. Further, we present an analysis of Wigner crystallization of electrons and excitons in quantum dots and bilayers [2].
In the second part, we discuss dynamic and nonequilibrium properties of QCS, which are treated on the basis of generalized total energy conserving kinetic equations. Finally, we demonstrate that Coulomb correlations allow one to develop new strategies to cool many-body systems [3].
