Status of the AMANDA Experiment — •Elisa Bernardini — DESY Zeuthen, Platanenallee 6, 15738 Zeuthen
AMANDA is a Cherenkov detector installed at the South Pole, using ice as a medium to search for high-energy neutrinos from a wide variety of astrophysical sources. The present detector (AMANDA-II, completed since 1999-2000) is located at 1500-2000 m below the surface and consists of 677 photomultipliers. The talk gives an overview over the results obtained with AMANDA in the years 1997-2000, including the search for a diffuse flux of extraterrestrial neutrinos, for steady point sources, for neutrinos associated with gamma ray bursts and for other transient emissions.
