The packing density of the readout electronics based on Flash-ADCs for existing Time-Projection-Chambers (TPC) is at least an order of magnitude smaller than foreseen for the TESLA TPC. We study an alternative solution, which is based on a Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) and a charge-to-time conversion technique. The possibility to apply this technique using the ASDQ-preamplifier was studied and multi-hit resolution requirements for the TDC were derived from simulation.

The readout electronics based on the TDCs as a very compact and cheap solution may provide reduced data flow and simple data representation format. This readout architecture would allow to use a larger number of readout channels, hence would improve the momentum resolution of the TPC.
