Third Generation (3G) systems are designed to support multimedia communication. Using the 3G technology person-to-person communication can be enhanced with high quality images and video. Moreover, access to information and services on public and private networks are enhanced by higher data rates and new flexible communication capabilities. This paper presents the design of the appropriate communication platform to support a two way communication procedures between a source (information Data Base that contains a multimedia application) and a number of mobile users that move in a specific geographical area. The system’s design parameters that are investigated are: a) the cell planning and switching level criteria to optimize both the number of Base Transceiving Stations (BTSs) and the Switching Centers (SCs), b)the system’s polling time to support a number of mobile users, that move in a specific geographic area, c)the soft and hard handover procedures and d) the RF modeling issues at 2 GHz.
