PMMA and PC films as well as metal-polymer systems were grown by pulsed laser deposition. The film growth is characterized in-situ by gas analysis and ex-situ by FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The morphological and mechanical properties of the films were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and by nanoindenter, respectively. In the case of polymer-metal compounds, the microstructure was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The structure and mechanical properties of the polymer films and metal-polymer compounds in dependence of the deposition parameters such as laser fluence and substrate temperature are discussed.
