SIMULTANEOUS MICRO-MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISATION BY MEANS OF microSAXS AND microWAXS MEASUREMENTS OF POLYMERS — •Konrad Schneider1, Nikolaos Zafeiropoulos1, Stephan Roth2, Dieter Jehnichen1, Andreas Pohlers1, Roland Weidisch1, and Manfred Stamm1 — 1Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden, Hohe Str. 6, 01069 Dresden, Germany — 2European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), ID13 Beamline, BP 220, F-38043 Grenoble Cedex, France
During deformation and failure very different processes appear in a polymer material. To understand the complex mechanisms operating, simultaneous mechanical and structural characterisation is necessary. In order to reach a steady deformation of the sample with strong stress concentration, a convenient geometry was achieved by using the micro dumbbell specimen, which was designed and tested for this purpose. The overall deformation of the sample can be estimated with an optical grating technique. Simultaneous x-ray scattering for structure characterisation with the use of a microfocus beam, SAXS and WAXS, at the ID13 beamline of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility was performed. First experiments with block copolymers are presented and discussed.
