Quantum dots are interesting in a wide field of biophysical and photonical applications. Here we examine possibilities of array formation of fluorescent II/VI-semiconductor-nano-particles. In particular we describe a procedure to cover the particles with a spherical shell of silica, transparent to visible light. We employ a two step recipe in which the particles are first functionalised and then submitted to conventional Stö ber-growth. We were able to grow these core-shell-particles to well defined sizes, corresponding to the fluorescence wavelength. Particles are then arrayed by advanced film formation technique. Performance and possible applications will be discussed.
