Elastic behaviour of crystals near temperature and pressure induced structural phase transitions — •Wilfried Schranz and A. Tröster — Institut für Experimentalphysik der Universität Wien, Strudlhofgasse 4, A-1090 Wien
Structural phase transitions are usually accompanied by anomalies in thermodynamic properties like birefringence, dielectric permittivity, specific heat, elastic constants, etc. Very often microstructures appear in the vicinity of phase transitions and lead to a complex static and dynamic behaviour of the macroscopic properties of crystal. Here we present an overview about the dynamic elastic behaviour of different systems. Specifically we will focus
- on the influence of heat diffusion (A. Tröster, W. Schranz, Phys. Rev. B66 2002) and
- on the influence of high pressure (A. Tröster, W. Schranz, R. Miletich, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88 2002)
to the elastic behaviour of single crystals.
