Polymer-metal systems have a wide range of possible applications ranging from food-packaging to microelectronics. With pulsed laser deposition a new flexible method is presented to prepare different kinds of metal clusters on polymer surfaces, as well as polymer-metal multilayers.
The properties of the polymer matrix, the size and distribution of metal clusters, and the interface characteristics of the polymer-metal multilayers are shown and discussed. Clusters and multilayer interfaces were studied using SAXS and TEM, the chemical structure of the polymer matrix was characterised by FTIR and GPC.
