Multilayers consisting of two immiscible components (e.g. Fe/Ag, Fe/Au) could be transformed by an annealing process into a nanostructered system of non-statistically distributed nearly spherical particles in a surrounding matrix of the complementary component. The particle configuration is strongly related to the defect structure of the film.
Prestructured substrates, e.g. nanofacetted α -Al2O3 (1010) , laserstructured CoO and Ta2O5 were utilised to transcribe a 2D particle arrangement into the overlying film.
Morphological characterisation before and after deposition of the multilayers by AFM reveal the nanofacets to be reproduced with high precession at the top of the multilayer.
XRD texture measurements show Ag(111) resp. Au(111) wire texture on adjacent facets which thereby are shown to be tilted by 20∘−35∘ , in good agreement with AFM data. Electrical transport parallel and perpendicular to the facets will be compared with data from deposition and subsequent annealing on planar substrates.
We thank Prof. Dr. W. Mueller, FH Goettingen PMF for the possibility to obtain the AFM data. This work is supported by DFG project 452/4-2.
