Defect-mediated turbulence in chaotic-oscillatory media — •Jörn Davidsen and Raymond Kapral — Chemical Physics Theory Group, Department of Chemistry, University of Toronto

We show that the phenomenon of defect-mediated turbulence can exist in media where the underlying local dynamics has a deterministic chaotic attractor. Many of the characteristics — like, for example, an exponential decay of correlations and a squared Poisson distribution for the number of defects — are identical to the case of oscillatory media. Yet, the fluctuations in the number of defects are significantly different and far from random.
