Spatiotemporal patterns of activity in periodically excitated neural fields — •Mihaela Enculescu and Michael Bestehorn — BTU, LS Theoretische Physik II, Erich-Weinert Str. 1, 03046 Cottbus
Spatial patterns of activity and their evolution in time are analysed in one-dimensional networks consisting of excitatory and inhibitory cell populations by means of a neural field model. The connections between cells are supposed to be isotropic, and their interaction nonlinear. We are interested in the response of the network to an external input with temporal periodicity. As shown by experiments, processing time-dependent information often involves periodical phenomena in the brain. Therefore, the study of its potential for creating and processing rhythmical behaviour seems to be important to our understanding of the activity in the brain.
