Lyapunov instability of the one-dimensional Lennard-Jones system — •Hongliu Yang and Guenter Radons — Theoretische Physik I, Komplexe Systeme und Nichtlineare Dynamik, TU-Chemnitz, D-09126 Chemnitz
Recent works on hard core system reveal the existence of regular collective perturbations corresponding to the smallest positive Lyapunov exponents (LEs), named Hydrodynamic Lyapunov modes. This opens a possible new way for the connection between quantities characterizing microscopic dynamical instability and the macroscopic transport coefficients. However, till now, these modes are only found for hard core systems. Here we reported new results for the Lyapunov vectors (LVs) of a one-dimensional Lennard-Jones system. By doing the spatial Fourier transformation, it is found the LVs for the smallest positive LEs are highly localized at low wave-numbers, i.e., they are highly regular modes with long wave length. This is similar to the Hydrodynamic Lyapunov modes in the hard core system. Furthermore, our preliminary results show that the behavior of these modes is different for two distinct states in this system. This means the Lyapunov vector can be used as a diagnostic signal for the identification of different macroscopic states.
