The analysis of dissipation and dephasing in driven mesoscopic devices requires a distinction between two different notions of Quantum Irreversibility (QI). One, known in the literature as No-dqLoschmidt echoNo-dq (or fidelity) is related to time reversal experiments, while the other is related to driving reversal. The former is relevant in quantum computing and in studies of quantum chaos while the latter has direct relevance to the recent studies of the response of driven chaotic mesoscopic systems. The differences and similarities between these two types of irreversibility are analized, both numerically and analytically, for the prototype random-matrix Wigner model.
