The path integral formalism in combined phase space and coherent state representation is applied to the problem of electron transfer. The system of interest is described by two coupled one dimensional harmonic potential surfaces interacting with a bath of an infinite number of uncoupled harmonic oscillators.
The mapping approach is used to rewrite the Lagrangian function of the electronic part of the system. The bath is eliminated using the Feynman-Vernon influence functional method. The non-Gaussian part of the path integral is treated using the generating functional for the electronic trajectories. In this way we construct a perturbation treatment in the shift between the potential surfaces. Finally, the population dynamics is calculated in the case of large overlap integrals between the wave functions on the potential energy surfaces.
