We studied the behaviour of charged colloidal model suspensions under the influence of a homogeneous electrostatic field. At equilibrium our suspensions are crystalline witch bcc-structure, if the concentration of electrolyte is kept sufficiently low. We report on the compression of such colloidal crystals as observed by simultaneous measurement of the static structure factor and low frequency conductivity.
