Protein-aggregation in membranes: The role of the leak conductance — •Stephan C. Kramer and Reiner Kree — Institut f. Theoretische Physik, Universität Göttingen, Bunsenstr. 9, 37073 Göttingen

In models of pattern formation of charged proteins in membranes like [1,2], it is common to divide the total transmembrane conductance into a specifically modeled part and a residue, treated as an unspecific leak conductance.

For a non-vanishing homogeneous leak conductance a linear stability analysis around a stationary and homogeneous solution shows the onset of spatial and spatio-temporal patterns of the membrane potential and the distribution of the channels.

We extend the analysis to inhomogeneously distributed leak conductances, including the case of conductances which vanish in the bulk of the membrane leading to modified boundary conditions.
