We study dynamics and statistical properties of a system of locally coupled, identical discrete dynamical networks. This type of model shows spatio-temporal patterns of dynamical activity very similar to gene expression patterns as observed in multicellular biological organisms. We investigate how these patterns are related to the structure of the underlying networks, and how they are modified by different degrees of dynamical interactions between neighboring cells. Conditions and limits for the robustness and stabilization of specific patterns within a “noisy” environment are examined.
