We investigate the influence of desorption on epitaxial growth by means of kinetic Monte Carlo simulations in 1+1 dimensions. Desorption triggers a dynamical phase transition from unstable growth with mound formation and slope selection to a self-affine, rough regime. The transition is reflected in a change in surface morphology and a critical dependence of the scaling exponents on the desorption rate.
