We study the scaling behavior of domain-walls[1] and droplets[2] in two-dimensional Ising spin glasses with Gaussian and bimodal distributions of the interactions. The domain walls are generated by changing the boundary conditions at T=0 in one direction. The droplets are obtained by introducing strong bonds locally attracting resp. repelling the ground state of the original system. The ground states of the original and perturbed system are calculated numerically by applying an efficient matching algorithm. We study the domain-wall energies using the aspect-ratio scaling approach. For the Gaussian disorder we find a stiffness exponent θ=−0.287(4), which is independent of the boundary conditions. We furthermore show, that for bimodal disorder the aspect-ratio approach does not work. For the behavior of the droplets an addition of a scaling correction l−ω is needed in order to accurately describe droplet energies at the length scales currently probed in numerical simulations making all results in two dimensions compatible with the Droplet picture.
