Nanoscopic quantum rings. A new perspective — •Tapash Chakraborty — Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai 600 113, India
With rapid advances in fabrication of nano-scale devices, quantum rings in nanometer dimensions that are disorder free and contain only a few electrons have gained increasing attention. Accordingly, the emphasis of research has also shifted from the problems involving the persistent current that is indirectly related to the energy levels, to a direct probe of the low-lying energy spectrun of a single quantum ring. Transport and optical spectroscopies have revealed many interesting aspects of energy spectra that are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions.
