Time-resolved study of equilibration between edge channels in the quantum Hall regime — •Gennadiy Sukhodub, Frank Hohls, and Rolf Haug — Institut für Festkörper Physik, Universität Hannover, Appelstraße 2, D-30167 Hannover, Germany
Time domain measurements of electric pulse propagation in the quantum Hall system allow the investigation of transient phenomena of edge state transport. In a specially designed GaAs/AlGaAs sample selective population and detection of edge channels has been realized. An electric pulse with a very steep leading edge is injected into one subsystem of the edge channel structure. After an interaction of these excited edge channels with not excited ones over a distance of 200 µ m an electrical current in both subsystems could be simultaneously detected by a two-channel digital oscilloscope. Therefore, this setup allows to obtain information about the current distribution over various edge channels as well as the time scale of the scattering events between them. First experiments dealing with the integral quantum Hall effect are presented.
